Day 4

Day 4 down, 3 more to go! The bananas and skim milk today weren't as bad as I was expecting. I hate drinking milk, but forced myself to drink about 10 oz (I really don't see why people love milk, it's like water and something weird tasting mixed together). I made a protein shake with the bananas, milk, and some vanilla protein powder, which was rather filling and surprisingly tasty. For lunch I had the soup. I am definitely sick of the soup already. Tomorrow is beef and tomatoes day, which I'm rather excited about. You can substitute some of the beef for chicken, which I definitely will be doing.

I also started a program today, designed to get you running a 5k in 9 short weeks! You follow it 3 days a week and gradually get yourself up to running 3 miles non-stop. If you're interested in trying it, check it out HERE. There's some podcasts you can download that will play music and tell you when to walk and run, which is pretty cool. I haven't downloaded any yet, but I will for sure post my recommendations once I try them out.

Day 2

Day 2 on the soup diet. Still going strong, but today has not been easy. After eating the soup twice yesterday, I really have no interest in eating it anymore. I'm going to because I have to, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Today was veggies all day, so I had to eat it even for breakfast. Have you ever eaten broccoli, carrots, and tomato for bfast? It's weird and not exactly satisfying. I ate bfast at 7:30, so I was ready for a snack around 10. Here, I had a salad with red wine vinegar. I don't know if the vinegar was allowed, but I was not about to chow down on raw lettuce. For lunch, I had black beans with tomatoes, green peppers, and onions; it was delish! For snack, I had broccoli dipped in salsa, which was really good. I'm going to eat some soup in a few minutes, and for dinner will be a baked potato with butter. I want to go get some edamame and natural hummus to add to my veggies. I'm looking forward to the fruit tomorrow very much. I'll keep you posted on my progress!

Day 1 Cabbage Soup

I decided to do a very unique diet/detox this week. It is called the Cabbage Soup Diet and is a 7 day plan. Bear with me, it has very strange limitations. My mom's friends did this diet and had great results. I hope to lose 8-10 pounds this week (water weight), and then follow it with an incredibly healthy diet, complete with tons of veggies, fruit, and lean protein. If you want to do something out of the ordinary and get a jump on your weight loss, try this diet! I'm going to keep a log this week to let you know how my progress is going. I will let you know how many pounds I have lost for the day and my experiences throughout the diet. Feel free to join me - below is the recipe and 7 Day Plan! Check it out for yourself HERE.

Day 1 Log: Today was the start of my diet. We made the soup yesterday and I started eating it today. The soup is very tasty, but I can see getting sick of it by the end of the week. Breakfast was a grapefruit and cranberry juice. Lunch was soup, a few strawberries, and unsweetened ice tea. I added chipotle hot sauce to my bowl of soup for lunch, which gave it a little zing. So far, so good. Snack will be a pear and grapes, and dinner will be soup, water, and an apple. Before bed will be a cup of hot tea.

Cabbage Soup Recipe
6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 carrots
1 container (10oz or so) mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
Half a head of cabbage
1 package of Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
1 48 oz can V8 juice (optional but recommended)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

1. Slice green onions, put in pot and start to saute with cooking spray
2. Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.
3. Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bit size pieces, add to pot.
4. Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot.
5. If you would like spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper (or add it per bowl).
6. You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings.
7. Add Lipton soup mix.
8. Cut celery into bite size pieces and add to pot.
9. Add tomatoes to pot.
10. Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice).
11. Cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time, 2-3 hours. Season to taste.

The 7 Day Plan
Day 1 - Fruit. Eat all the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks - unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water.

Day 2 - Veggies. Eat until you are stuffed with all the fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. try to eat leafy green vegetable and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today.

Day 3 - Fruit and Veggies. Pair day 1 and 2. Eat all the soup, fruits and veggies you want. No Baked Potato though.

Day 4 - Bananas and Skim Milk. Eat as many as 8 bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you would like on this day, along with your soup. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.

Day 5 - Beef and Tomatoes. 10-20 oz of beef and up to 6 fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (but absolutely no skin on chicken). If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef one of the beef days (but not both).

Day 6 - Beef and Veggies. Eat to your heart's content of beef and veggies this day. You can even have 2 or 3 steaks if you like, with leafy green veggies. No Baked Potato. Eat your soup at least once.

Day 7 - Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies. Again, stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day.

*This diet should only be followed for 7 days at a time, with at least 2 weeks in between. It is great for quick weight loss, but not suitable for long-term weight loss. It is is a low-fat, high-fiber diet that will get you into shape fast before you embark on a more moderate long-term eating plan.

Resolutions

I'm not usually one for making an extreme amount of New Years Resolutions, heck I don't usually make any. But this year I thought I'd make a few. Just a few, so I don't get too ahead of myself. I encourage you to make a few this year too! The main thing with New Years Resolutions is be realistic. Don't reach too high, or you'll get discouraged. Here are my goals for this year:

1. Training log. I want to create a training log to keep myself accountable for working out 4-5 times a week. This will include intervals of weight training and increasing my running each week. I eventually would like to run a half marathon, but that is way way way in the future.

2. 5k. I run 1 5k every year on Thanksgiving morning, but this year I want to run at least 3 5ks.

3. Plan to move. I need to get a jump on moving out of my mom's house and/or moving somewhere different. Whether it's up the street to Tampa or to another state entirely, I want to move onto the next chapter of my life.

4. Figure it out. I want to figure out what exactly I want to do with the rest of my life, career wise. The problem with me is that I like too many things. I enjoy nannying, but don't want to do it as a career. I love fashion, but just don't know how to get my foot in the door. This year, I will figure out what I want to do with my life, and make a few steps in that direction. Even if I don't "figure it out," I want to have a few steps conquered.

Traditions

I love how each family has traditions of their very own. It is so great that on Christmas each family does basically the same thing, but in a different manor. Everyone (that celebrates Christmas) wakes up early, grabs their stocking, and rips open the presents. But, not every family does it in that order or in the same way.

For my family, we wake up when we wake up (there aren't any kids waking up at 6) which is usually around 8. We then grab a cup of tea and our stocking and open them up. In our stockings are individually wrapped little presents that we take turns going around opening (the stocking is by far my favorite part). After stockings, we eat breakfast. When I was a kid, we waited for my grandparents to get to my house before opening presents. Because we became accustomed to waiting for them, it's normal for us to take showers and eat breakfast before opening presents. So, usually after showering and getting dressed, we open our presents. My sister and I usually go around and find whose present is who's and makes little stacks in front of the person it belongs to. We then go around in circles and open the presents one by one. It always really bothered me in Home Alone 2 and in other movies when the kids see their presents and rip them all open, not even watching what each other gets. Those movies make it seem like Christmas is all about gifts, and not appreciating the thought that went into them. After presents, we start cooking for our Christmas dinner. My grandmother is in a nursing home, so we always go visit her and give her her presents around noon. We then come home, eat dinner around 4 or 5, and I sometimes go visit my dad and other grandma in the evening. That's my Christmas!

I have a really busy Christmas day, but it is wonderful in every way! Merry Christmas to everyone!

Peanut butter kisses

Every Christmas time, my mouth waters at the wonderfulness that is cookies. I love how every family seems to have their own take on Christmas and how every family claims that they make the best cookies in the world. In most cases, this is true...because not every family makes the same cookies in the same way. Even when following the same recipe, it's amazing how the same exact cookie recipe can taste different due to the different cook that prepared it. Every Christmas, my family and I make a very common cookie, Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies. I'm sure there are tons of recipes for this cookie, but ours is the best! Here is the recipe that we follow each year.

Ingredients:
1 cup butter flavored Crisco
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
¼ cup milk
2 tsp vanilla
3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Granulated sugar for rolling
72-90 milk chocolate Hershey's kisses unwrapped (the white chocolate striped ones are good too!)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375.
2. Combine Crisco, peanut butter, brown sugar and sugar in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in eggs, milk and vanilla.
3. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed until just blended. (Dough will be stiff.)
4. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
5. Bake 8 minutes. Press milk chocolate kiss into center of each cookie. Return to oven. Bake 3 minutes. (The tip of the kiss will be a little brown).
6. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet. Remove to cooling rack.
7. Makes 6-7 ½ dozen cookies
8. Enjoy!!!

Weekend update

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for not posting this weekend. I had a very busy weekend and have a valid excuse for yesterday! ALL day Sunday I was at a radio station event in Tampa (97X Next Big Thing) where there were concerts all day of a bunch of awesome bands. I was so excited to finally see one of my favorite bands, Switchfoot (I don't know how I've never seen them before, they've been my favorite for years)! It was a great day with amazing weather! The only thing I regret is bringing my digital camera with me...I can't believe I forgot it, I bring it everywhere. Thank God for cell phone cameras!
The amazing line up!! I was very excited to see Switchfoot, Paper Tongues, Cage the Elephant, and the Black Keys. To my surprise, My Chemical Romance was my favorite performance! They put on an amazing show!
Janna and I waiting to watch some of our favorite bands
Switchfoot's lead singer. We were so close to him!

I am thankful

Happy Thanksgiving!!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday! With family or not, enjoy this excuse to overeat! Also, today the ads go out for Black Friday...so go grab yourself a newspaper and map out your plan! There is so much to be thankful for and here is my Top 10:
1. Family. It's always great to have a supportive family, and I love mine so!
2. Friends. You guys are always there for me and I love you :)
3. Health. I am so thankful that I am in good health!
4. Job. With the economy still in its sucky state, I'm thankful to be employed by a wonderful family.
5. Travel. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to travel to Europe last year, and to California this past summer. I plan to take many more trips in the future.
6. Weather. Sometimes I wish that I lived somewhere else, but Florida really does have some fantastic weather. It's pretty much always beautiful out. I can see why all the old people want to live here. I take it for granted often, but I really do live in a paradise, just steps from the beach.
7. Exercise. You can complain all you want about having to work out, but it really is the best thing for your body. I have become to really love my daily workout and really hate when I have to skip it. This morning, my family and I did the Turkey Trot 5k and had a blast!
8. Music. I wouldn't survive without music. It's my outlet and I can't run without music blaring in my ears. Most genres, I love.
9. Technology. What would life possibly be like without my iPod, MacBook, TV, BlackBerry and Facebook??
10. Today. I am thankful for each and everyday!!

Poor feet

I posted a couple weeks ago that I went to Islands of Adventure in Orlando, but I probably failed to mention that my shoes were so uncomfortable that I was practically limping out of the park. I could have chosen the more comfy route with tennis shoes, but I sacrificed comfort for a more fashionable option. I didn't want to look like some dork with big tennis shoes on with a cute outfit. The result of my sucky choice of shoes were blisters all over my poor feet (which are still healing)! Hopefully, some good can come of my horrible experience for you. Here are some way that you (and I in the future) can prevent blisters.
1. Comfort. Wear shoes that are comfortable and have enough room in the toe box and feel good in the heel.

2. Socks. Wear socks that wick sweat, such as CoolMax. Don't wear cotton.

3. Keep your feet dry. You can use foot powder before putting on your socks.

4. Protect. If you have places on your feet that are prone to blisters, protect them before you leave.

5. Band-Aid Blister bandages with Compeed. I have read in multiple places that these work wonders.

6. Wet 2 tea bags and place them on the blister prone areas at night. Allow the tea to absorb into the skin. The tea has been shown to toughen these soft areas to help prevent blisters.

Don't forget to set your clocks back tonight!!

Vintage Tia Halloween

Have I got a treat for you! I was looking through some of my pictures to see if I had any of my past costumes, and I found a few. The clown was when I was about 3, the cat was when I was about 5, and the poodle skirt girl was when I was about 10. I distinctly remember the year I was a cat. I had a tail attached to my butt and my dog kept trying to bite it off of me, it was pretty hilarious. Enjoy the pictures of my past!

Magazine fiend

Reading is one of my favorite ways of escaping from the world. There really is nothing like the feeling of breaking open a new magazine. I usually save my magazine for the perfect moment. I get really excited when that moment finally comes, and I can sit and just read my new piece of material.

I read quite a few different magazines. I'm pretty dedicated to them and love learning new and interesting things. I especially love learning about fashion and what's going on with those celebrities. If you are looking for some great reading material, but don't know which ones are good, here is a list of the magazines I read on a normal basis.

1. Glamour. I love the combination of fashion, beauty, and advice that comes with this magazine. I am most devoted to this one, and read it every month.

2. Elle. There are some great fashion tips and articles of different sorts here.

3. People. I love celeb gossip, but the puzzler is probably my favorite part of this magazine. Read this one every week.

4. Cosmopolitan. Sure, this mag has a rep of being dirty, but it really has some great reads! They pretty much talk about everything that a woman would be interested in.

5. Allure. I love the beauty and hair advice and read this one on occasion.

6. Marie Claire. I read this on occasion, it has some great fashion and beauty ideas.

Most of their websites have great articles, etc. too! Happy reading!

Squeaky clean

Do you ever go over to someone's house, use their bathroom, and peek in their shower or cabinets? Curiosity killed the cat, but I don't think being curious of your friend's products will kill you. In fact, it's pretty normal to wonder what happens behind the magic curtain. So that you don't sneak into my house and peek in all my drawers, I figured the safest bet would be to list the products I use on a normal basis.

I use a lot of shampoos. I have fairly greasy hair, so I like to switch it up every couple of days so my hair doesn't get used to it. The kinds I use are: Aveeno Nourish+Moisturize Shampoo and Conditioner, John Frieda Root Awakening Shampoo (smells so good), Herbal Essence Tousle Me Softly Shampoo, Tresemme Shampoo and Conditioner, and Suave Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner (compared to Aveda and smells divine).

Other things I use in the shower: Aveeno Hydrating Body Wash - Fig and Shea Butter, Venus Tropical disposable razor, shower pouf, PediScrub Exfoliating Gel (for you feet), foot loofa, and shower comb.

Products in my bathroom: DermaDoctor Ain't Misbehavin' face wash, Target brand Daily Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Murad face wash system, Tresemme' Mousse, Garnier Fructis Hairspray, Crest 3D White Toothbrush and Toothpaste, and Secret Clinical Strength deodorant. I also take vitamins daily (gotta stay healthy!): Target brand adults' gummy multivitamin, Fish Oil, Calcium, Magnesium, Biotin, and L-Lysine.

Sally's wearing a red dress

I'm pretty sure that every kid has that golden item. You know, their favorite blanket, shirt, toy, etc. Mine was a pair of red sparkly shoes. When I was a little girl, I had a tendency of loving a movie and watching it on repeat. Literally...over and over again. My go-to movies that I remember are The Little Mermaid and Wee Sing Together. I remember absolutely loving Wee Sing Together. The premise of the movie was a little girl, Sally, and her brother get whisked away to the Wee-Sing Park for her birthday and they are entertained by a bunch of different characters, singing nursery rhymes. One of my favorite songs on the movie was about Sally's outfit for her birthday. "Sally's wearing a red dress, red dress, red dress, all day long." Obviously, she wore a red dress, but she also wore red sparkly shoes. I wanted to be her. I thought she was so cool. Therefore, I NEEDED a pair of red shoes just like Sally. When I finally got them, they never left my feet!

Would you rather...

I bet you're excited for another random topic! I came across a website that listed a bunch of them, so don't worry, I have a plethora of topics! For this one, I found some "would you rather?" questions and thought it would be fun to answer them. Some of these are rather gross, so brace yourself.
Would you rather:
1. Be trapped in an elevator with wet dogs or with three fat men with bad breath?
-The fat men...it's not like the fat guys are breathing on me.

2. Snort half a shaker of pepper or a live bee?
-Both sound painful, but I'd have to go with the pepper because I wouldn't want to get stung.

3. While starving on a desert island, eat a live moth with a body the size of a tomato worm and wing span four inches, or eat a dead hummingbird with the feathers?
-Haha both are disgusting, but if considering I can't cook either of them,  I'd go with the moth. If I was able to cook them over fire, I'd eat the hummingbird.

4. Immerse your naked body in a bathtub of cockroaches or dive naked head first into a pool of tobacco spit?
-I'm deathly afraid of cockroaches, so I'd go with the spit.

5. Would you rather have super powers or have Christmas never end?
-Super powers.

6. Would you rather drink 1 galloon of ketchup or 1 gallon of mustard?
-I don't really like ketchup, so I'd go with the mustard.

7. Have a missing finger or an extra toe?
-Fingers are seen more, so I'd rather have an extra toe.

8. Knowing you will die tomorrow, would you rather spend your last night out to dinner with your closest friends, or have it with your favorite movie star?
-Friends definitely.

9. Fart in an elevator and have everyone know it's you or have someone else fart in an elevator?
-Wow, umm someone else I guess.

10. Be stuck in a broken elevator by yourself in the dark or be stuck with the lights on but with a kid that won't stop crying?
-By myself, I'd just take a nap or something.

Those were fun! Would you have different answers than me?

Autumn's in the air

Do you know what today is? It's the first day of Fall!! Ahhh what a wonderful season! This may possibly be my favorite season of them all! Want to know why??? Here are a few reasons:
  • The weather is always beautiful
  • I can go running outside
  • I can do things and go places outside
  • Opening the doors and windows
  • Boots
  • Scarves
  • Wearing jeans without sweating to death
  • Cute light jackets
  • Brisk air that's not freezing yet
  • Good hair days
  • The leaves change colors (not in FL, but I can still appreciate that it happens in other places)
  • Pumpkin spiced lattes (decaf, of course)
  • Pumpkin scented things (more on that later)
  • Halloween
  • Carving pumpkins and eating the seeds
  • Haunted houses - Halloween Horror Nights and Howl-o-scream
  • Halloween movies (Hocus Pocus anyone?)
  • Excuse to wear a witches hat
  • Thanksgiving
  • Fighting the crowds on Black Friday
  • The anticipation of the holiday season
Why are some reasons you love Fall?

What's in your wallet?

They say that you can tell a lot about a girl by looking in her purse. I could see that being true. I guess the girls that carry a clutch or something only big enough to carry lipgloss and a cell phone would be described as minimalists, while a girl that carries a giant bag could be classified as a backpacker.

I would say that my bag falls somewhere in the middle. I carry enough for my bag to be heavy, but not so much that I could start pulling out enough snacks for a picnic. I always remember that movie One Fine Day with Michelle Pfeiffer, when she drops the kids off at that horrid daycare and starts whipping out fabric and such, and soon enough the kids have costumes. God help me if I ever have that much in my bag. Anywho, the bag I carry is a delicious camel colored Michael Kors. I love it so!

Here are the contents of what you can always find in my bag:

1. Blackberry Tour
2. Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital Camera inside green case
3. Wallet
4. Keys
5. Blue iPod 16gb Nano, incase arm band, and blue headphones
6. DKNY glasses inside white hard case
7. Biofreeze
8. Coconut Lime Verbena Anti-Bacteria hand lotion
9. Gum
10. Lip Stuff: Burt's Bees Lip Balm, Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain/Balm, Smith's Rosebud Salve
11. Sunglasses
12. Bottle of water (usually, but not always)

Super duper powers

I'm gonna switch things up a bit. Being that it's Monday, I don't have anything specific planned for this day. Instead of posting about my CA trip today (I have a few more posts), I'm just going to talk about something completely random. Why the heck not? It is my blog after all, I can do whatever I want. These random topics (yes, there will be more) will help you get to know me that much more! Lucky you!

I told you this topic was going to be random, but it's definitely something that everyone has thought of. As a kid, you probably pondered it all the time. With Twilight being so popular, and all of the vampires having powers, I'm absolutely positive you have thought about it.  If I could have any super power what would it be? Hmmmm. The most common answer, the gift of flight, would be super cool but it's not the super power I would pick.

If I could have any super power, it would definitely be to move things with my mind. Sometimes at work, when I'm feeding the baby, I want something that is beside me but can't move my hand because it will disturb her. It would be super fantastic to move that object closer to me while not disturbing the almost sleeping baby. Other times, when I'm being lazy on the couch and want the remote or I hear my phone ringing on the table, I'd like to shoot imaginary lazars out of my eyes and the object is miraculously in my hand. Making dinner would be a snap...I could just move the spoon with my mind to keep stirring, while I'm preparing other things. How incredible would that be to be telekinetic? Man oh man! BTW, how funny are those pictures? I thought the cat one was sheer genius.

If you could choose, what super duper power would you have?

A few of my favorite things

I was just thinking of some very random things that I love. Here's a few.

I love the sound of makeup being tossed around in a makeup bag.
I love replacing something after its been used (like lotion, body wash, etc.).
I love the smell right after it rains, and the smell of freshly cut grass.
I love anything coconut. The smell, the taste, the texture.
I love getting a new magazine, and saving it for the perfect time to read it.
I love chewing on the plastic from the tag on new clothes.
I love jumping into a bed of freshly cleaned sheets.
I love the feeling of having all of my clothes clean and put away.
I love getting new shampoo.
I love the smell of sunscreen, and put it on every morning just because I want to smell like it.
I love burning a CD or making a new playlist, putting it on in the car, and rocking out.
I love dance parties in the front seat with a friend while driving.
I love putting together an awesome outfit and saving it for the perfect event.
I love having a freshly cleaned car, inside and out (happens very rarely).
I love days that are structurally planned out for me. But, also love days that I have absolutely nothing to do.
I love being indoors when it's raining, and just listening to the awesome sounds of the rain and thunder.
I love a freshly stocked fridge.

I love that its June!! And that the weather is beyond fantastic all the time!!
