Top 10 shows

Happy Top Ten Thursday!

There have been some great shows on television, both still on and others that rest in peace. I thought it would be fun to list my Top 10 Favorite Shows that have ever aired. Keep in mind, these are my opinions, sorry if you don't agree!
1. Lost. The.Best.Show.Ever. So sad to see it go, and I am probably one of the few that actually liked the way they ended it. That show got my mind working, constantly wondering what the heck was happening on that island! Plus, I loved Jack. A lot.

2. Friends. I absolutely love watching reruns of this show. They are funny after the 10th time. Everything in life can be related to Friends, I guarantee it.

3. The Office. I've never watched the British version, so this is pertaining to the American version. The shinanigans that go on in that office are just so great!

4. Modern Family. A great new show, that even won an Emmy! It is hilarious and comparably funny to The Office, in my opinion.

5. Gossip Girl. I love the drama and fashion of this show. XOXO.

6. Glee. Who the heck doesn't love Glee?? I can't help it, I'm a Gleek at heart!

7. The OC. I watched this show when I was in high school. I would race home from youth group to watch it (back in the day before DVR). All of my friends made fun of me, then they converted. I don't blame them, how could you resist Seth Cohen?

8. Gilmore Girls. I can relate this show to my life with my sister and mom. We are very much like them when we are together. Loved it and love reruns!

9. Ugly Betty. I was so sad to see it go. Like Gossip Girl, I loved the fashion aspect of the show and the drama was hilarious!

10. So You Think You Can Dance. Dance. Dance. What a great show! Did I mention that we saw Neil and Dominic while waiting in line for the Price is Right? I was 'dancing' with 'glee'! (puns intended.)

Those are/were some of my favorite shows on TV, how about you?

Head over heels

I was browsing the internet and came across an interesting article by Time Magazine. A study was conducted by Northumbria University in the UK, who wondered if men noticed when women wore heels. While it changes a woman's posture by making her legs appear longer, accentuates the butt, and creates a slimmer physique, they wanted to figure out if this impacted men at all.

The answer? Nope.

I guess we can think about that next time we decide to buy a killer pair of stilettos. I find it hard to fully believe this study, but really it doesn't matter to me. I could really care less if guys like them or not. I know that when I'm rocking an awesome pair of shoes that I feel great about myself!

How about you? Do you care if this study is accurate?

The smell of Leaves

Happy Favorite Things Tuesday!

Being that it's finally Autumn (yay!), I wanted to share with you one of my favorite products exclusive to Fall. In terms of senses, everything associated with Fall is wonderful...I love the sight, look, feel, taste, and mostly the smell of Fall in the air. To me, the smell is somewhat of a mix of cinnamon, pumpkins, apples, berries, and cidar spices. One of my favorite products, that seems to encompass all of those smells into one is Bath & Body Works' seasonal scent Leaves. Last season, they carried everything for it, from hand soap to shower gel. This season, they carry the smell, but only minimally. Just recently, I went into Bath & Body Works in search of a refill for my wall plug-ins, and they carry it in the Leaves! Eurica! It's now been plugged into my wall for a couple weeks now (I had a head start on the season) and it smells delightful everytime I enter the room. I highly recommend it if you want to walk into an Autumn Wonderland everyday!
*Also, today is my mom's birthday! Happy Birthday Momma!!*

Squeaky clean

Do you ever go over to someone's house, use their bathroom, and peek in their shower or cabinets? Curiosity killed the cat, but I don't think being curious of your friend's products will kill you. In fact, it's pretty normal to wonder what happens behind the magic curtain. So that you don't sneak into my house and peek in all my drawers, I figured the safest bet would be to list the products I use on a normal basis.

I use a lot of shampoos. I have fairly greasy hair, so I like to switch it up every couple of days so my hair doesn't get used to it. The kinds I use are: Aveeno Nourish+Moisturize Shampoo and Conditioner, John Frieda Root Awakening Shampoo (smells so good), Herbal Essence Tousle Me Softly Shampoo, Tresemme Shampoo and Conditioner, and Suave Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner (compared to Aveda and smells divine).

Other things I use in the shower: Aveeno Hydrating Body Wash - Fig and Shea Butter, Venus Tropical disposable razor, shower pouf, PediScrub Exfoliating Gel (for you feet), foot loofa, and shower comb.

Products in my bathroom: DermaDoctor Ain't Misbehavin' face wash, Target brand Daily Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Murad face wash system, Tresemme' Mousse, Garnier Fructis Hairspray, Crest 3D White Toothbrush and Toothpaste, and Secret Clinical Strength deodorant. I also take vitamins daily (gotta stay healthy!): Target brand adults' gummy multivitamin, Fish Oil, Calcium, Magnesium, Biotin, and L-Lysine.

Sally's wearing a red dress

I'm pretty sure that every kid has that golden item. You know, their favorite blanket, shirt, toy, etc. Mine was a pair of red sparkly shoes. When I was a little girl, I had a tendency of loving a movie and watching it on repeat. Literally...over and over again. My go-to movies that I remember are The Little Mermaid and Wee Sing Together. I remember absolutely loving Wee Sing Together. The premise of the movie was a little girl, Sally, and her brother get whisked away to the Wee-Sing Park for her birthday and they are entertained by a bunch of different characters, singing nursery rhymes. One of my favorite songs on the movie was about Sally's outfit for her birthday. "Sally's wearing a red dress, red dress, red dress, all day long." Obviously, she wore a red dress, but she also wore red sparkly shoes. I wanted to be her. I thought she was so cool. Therefore, I NEEDED a pair of red shoes just like Sally. When I finally got them, they never left my feet!

Would you rather...

I bet you're excited for another random topic! I came across a website that listed a bunch of them, so don't worry, I have a plethora of topics! For this one, I found some "would you rather?" questions and thought it would be fun to answer them. Some of these are rather gross, so brace yourself.
Would you rather:
1. Be trapped in an elevator with wet dogs or with three fat men with bad breath?
-The fat men...it's not like the fat guys are breathing on me.

2. Snort half a shaker of pepper or a live bee?
-Both sound painful, but I'd have to go with the pepper because I wouldn't want to get stung.

3. While starving on a desert island, eat a live moth with a body the size of a tomato worm and wing span four inches, or eat a dead hummingbird with the feathers?
-Haha both are disgusting, but if considering I can't cook either of them,  I'd go with the moth. If I was able to cook them over fire, I'd eat the hummingbird.

4. Immerse your naked body in a bathtub of cockroaches or dive naked head first into a pool of tobacco spit?
-I'm deathly afraid of cockroaches, so I'd go with the spit.

5. Would you rather have super powers or have Christmas never end?
-Super powers.

6. Would you rather drink 1 galloon of ketchup or 1 gallon of mustard?
-I don't really like ketchup, so I'd go with the mustard.

7. Have a missing finger or an extra toe?
-Fingers are seen more, so I'd rather have an extra toe.

8. Knowing you will die tomorrow, would you rather spend your last night out to dinner with your closest friends, or have it with your favorite movie star?
-Friends definitely.

9. Fart in an elevator and have everyone know it's you or have someone else fart in an elevator?
-Wow, umm someone else I guess.

10. Be stuck in a broken elevator by yourself in the dark or be stuck with the lights on but with a kid that won't stop crying?
-By myself, I'd just take a nap or something.

Those were fun! Would you have different answers than me?

Get ruffled up

A new collage for the week! I think this one may be my favorite thus far. I saw the skirt and fell in love. It was definitely the inspiration for this set. I love the peacock accessories (the necklace and fabulous ring) and the blue shoes. I wish I could take home all of this! I challenge you to make a collage on Polyvore to get your creative juices flowing! Try it, you'll love it! Happy Fashion Forward Friday!

DJ, turn it off!

Happy Top Ten Thursday!

I must say, I really love music. I listen to wide range of genres and pretty much like it all. However, every now and then a song comes along that makes me want to throw my shoe at the radio. There isn't always a reason for hating the song, sometimes I like it at first and it gets overplayed. Most of the time though, I hate the singers voice or the vibe of the song. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...so don't hate me for hating these songs. But, if I hear these songs one more time, radio personalities will suffer:
1. "California Gurls" by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg. I have hated this song since the first time I heard it. The beat is annoying, the topic is annoying, and Snoop Dogg is annoying. Thank God that Katy Perry has a new single out, so they can give this one a rest.

2. "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem featuring Rihanna. I like the Rihanna part, but can not stand Eminem. I think he has the most annoying rapping voice after Snoop Dogg, and is so whiny.

3. "Not Afraid" by Eminem. I just hate Eminem. Why the heck is he all over the radio again? I thought we were rid of him in 1999 after "My Name Is".

4. "I Like It" by Enrique Iglesias. If this is supposed to be a fun, dance party song, I'm not feeling it.

5. "Soul Sister" by Train. I love Train, their album 'Save Me San Francisco' is wonderful! But, this song has been overplayed. I liked it at first but now it's ruined for me.

6. "Alejandro" by Lady Gaga. I like Lady Gaga's songs, but this one is just obnoxious.

7. "Baby" or anything by Justin Bieber. At first, I thought his voice was Miley Cyrus. I don't understand why he is so popular with older people. I understand middle schoolers liking him, but really Kim Kardashian?

8. "The Only Exception" by Paramore. I like Paramore, but this song is way too repetitive.

9. "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz. Come on dude, at least write a chorus...don't just repeat the same 6 words over and over again.

10. "Your Love Is My Drug" by Ke$ha. I like some of her songs, but this one is annoying.

Autumn's in the air

Do you know what today is? It's the first day of Fall!! Ahhh what a wonderful season! This may possibly be my favorite season of them all! Want to know why??? Here are a few reasons:

  • I can do things and go places outside
  • Opening the doors and windows
  • Boots
  • Scarves
  • Wearing jeans without sweating to death
  • Cute light jackets
  • Brisk air that's not freezing yet
  • Good hair days
  • The leaves change colors (not in FL, but I can still appreciate that it happens in other places)

  • Pumpkin scented things (more on that later)
  • Halloween
  • Carving pumpkins and eating the seeds
  • Haunted houses - Halloween Horror Nights and Howl-o-scream
  • Halloween movies (Hocus Pocus anyone?)
  • Excuse to wear a witches hat

  • The anticipation of the holiday season
Why are some reasons you love Fall?

Barely there

Happy Favorite Things Tuesday!!

If you are like me, you have tried your fair share of make-up products. For a while, I was an avid Mac consumer, then when I joined Mary Kay as a consultant I had everything of that brand. After hearing wonderful things about it and it being highly recommended from several of my friends, I decided to give bareMinerals a chance. Having some pimples that I like covered, I was apprehensive that it wouldn't conceal enough, with it being powder and all. I have so say, this conceals better than any other product I've tried and I have been pleasantly surprised by all of the products!

My first purchase was the bareMinerals Get Started Kit, in the Fair. It came with everything to start you off, including a few brushes. It was an overall good investment. After I had such good luck with the Get Started Kit, I decided to purchase the Complexion Enhancers Kit. This comes with a few more things for the face, including a Faux Tan (bronzer), Pure Radiance (sparkles for your cheeks), Feather Light Mineral Veil, Well Rested for Eyes (goes under the eyes and makes you look alert) and a few more brushes. I really like this kit and all of its contents. Although the containers are really small, they will last a while because you only use a very light amount of these products. I also wanted a blush of some kind, so I purchased the color Vintage Peach, which is subtle yet a nice pink shade. I'm happy to say that I now love bareMinerals!
How about you, do you love bareMinerals?

What's in your wallet?

They say that you can tell a lot about a girl by looking in her purse. I could see that being true. I guess the girls that carry a clutch or something only big enough to carry lipgloss and a cell phone would be described as minimalists, while a girl that carries a giant bag could be classified as a backpacker.

I would say that my bag falls somewhere in the middle. I carry enough for my bag to be heavy, but not so much that I could start pulling out enough snacks for a picnic. I always remember that movie One Fine Day with Michelle Pfeiffer, when she drops the kids off at that horrid daycare and starts whipping out fabric and such, and soon enough the kids have costumes. God help me if I ever have that much in my bag. Anywho, the bag I carry is a delicious camel colored Michael Kors. I love it so!

Here are the contents of what you can always find in my bag:

1. Blackberry Tour
2. Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital Camera inside green case
3. Wallet
4. Keys
5. Blue iPod 16gb Nano, incase arm band, and blue headphones
6. DKNY glasses inside white hard case
7. Biofreeze
8. Coconut Lime Verbena Anti-Bacteria hand lotion
9. Gum
10. Lip Stuff: Burt's Bees Lip Balm, Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain/Balm, Smith's Rosebud Salve
11. Sunglasses
12. Bottle of water (usually, but not always)

Bye bye California

Day 11.

This was our last and final day in California. Brooke was photographing a wedding, so Kim and I dropped her off where the bride was, then we were off to kayak! We drove to La Jolla, got our kayaking gear plus a water camera which turned out to be defective, gathered with our tour group, and were on our way! Kayaking was so awesome, highly recommended! The water was freezing, but once we got over the shock it wasn't too bad.
By defective, I mean that the "water camera" was water-stained. Go figure. So our pictures look like they are from the 70's.

The tour was guided by 2 HIGH-larious guys (pun-intended). They were funny, informative, and made the trip that much more enjoyable. The tour took us to a cave, where we got to kayak into. It was kind of scary...in order to get into the cave, you have to ride the wave into it and try not to hit the rocks of the narrow opening. No pressure. After we got inside, it was well worth it. The picture (below) doesn't really do it justice, heck it doesn't do anything at all for you! Outside of the cave was a big rock which housed like 20 sea lions. The rock really wasn't that big, so they literally were all on top of each other and barking really loud. They seemed to be a heated discussion and were extremely noisy. Very cool to watch! After that, we dangerously rode a wave back onto shore, and almost tipped into the freezing water. We returned our gear and went back to the hotel.
After taking army showers (seriously, we got ready so fast), we got all dressed up and went to the wedding that Brooke was photographing. A free meal and open bar, why the heck not? The wedding was beautiful...it was on the Navy base and was an outdoor ceremony on a pretty lawn. The reception was just as picturesque, with a Santa Fe feel. I must admit, this was by far the best wedding I've ever been to! The food was great, the music was great, the dance floor constantly had people on it, and people were just having a good time. A great way to end the trip!

A few have started this past week, but the majority begins this coming week...and I'm so excited!! There are a lot of new shows premiering too. However, I'm so loaded up with shows that I've been watching, that I can only add a couple to the mix. Not that I don't want to add more...my DVR can't record more than 2 shows at once! Fashion Week

This week has been a huge one for fashion, it was New York Fashion Week 2010! There were so many amazing collections and very interesting ideas for Spring. If you aren't aware of how the fashion world works, when they have Fashion Week in the Fall they are showing their designs for the following Spring. When you go into the stores now, you see what is popular now. Fashion Week gives you a sneak peak of what's to come (also known as Fashion Forecasting). Thus, Spring 2011 collections were shown this week.

The similar trend/theme of most of the shows for Spring was very relaxed. The silhouetttes were simple, fresh, flowy, and neutral. But, Fashion Week isn't necessarily just about clothes. The shows also give you a peak into accessories, make up, and hair. Simple will be the style for faces, with pops of color on the lips. Eyebrows will be fuller and the over all look is "ease". Hair is lose, flowy, and loose waves, without product.

All of the collections were posted on the Fashion Week website, http://newyork.mbfashionweek.com/, so you're able to view photos from the runway and view your favorite designers. Here are a few of my favorite designers from the week and a couple of their designs:

Michael Kors. One of my favorite designers. His designs were classy and neutral and the coat below is beyond fabulous. He had some great male designs too.

Vivienne Tam. Her designs are for the everyday girl, and I really liked that. They were casual, yet fabulous. I had never heard of her before, but really enjoyed her collection. I'd can't wait to see some of her designs in the future!

Diane Von Furstenberg. I loved how chic her designs were! I also liked how she incorporated a lot of geometric designs. So bold! And how gorgeous is that red suit below?

Vera Wang. When does she ever really go wrong? Her designs are always so beautiful!

Diesel Black Gold. If I had to guess, I'd say the designer was going for dirty/chic. All of the models looks quite disheveled! I liked what they were going for, it was edgy and I like the touches of leather.

DKNY. I liked the neutrals with the pops of color in the scarves and shoes. I pretty much loved it all!

These are just a few of my favorite designers from the week. What were some of your favorites?

Beauty secrets

Happy Top Ten Thursday!

On most days, I watch The Today Show and The Doctors, and I learn a lot! There are always beauty and fashion secrets (those are my favorite sessions) that give such great information. I also read a lot of magazines each month. I'm constantly studying! I thought it would be great to share with you some of the things I've learned from those shows and mags, hopefully you will find them as helpful as I have!

1. Brushes. To wash your makeup brushes, stick them in the dishwasher then lay out to dry. If you are in a hurry, get some brush cleaner.

2. Exfoliate. It is important to exfoliate your skin twice a week. It will allow your expensive face washes to work better. Do not use apricot scrub because it is too rough and will scratch your skin, but rather use pineapple and papaya scrubs with lactic acid.

3. Baby Powder. Use this when you need to freshen up your underarms, to degrease your hair, when you are chaffing between your legs, and to keep a cut from bleeding (razor cut on leg from shaving anyone?)

4. Bad breath? It probably means you haven't hydrated enough, so chug 2 glasses of water. Also, make sure you brush your tongue and the gum lining your teeth. Parsley is a natural breath freshener, so if you have some on your plate eat it.

5. Spoon.  If you discover a zit on your face and its not the most opportune moment for it to pop up, heat up a spoon under hot water for about 10 seconds then press the underside on the blemish. It wont stop the pimple from coming, but it will hold it off for a couple hours and decrease the size when it does come.

6. Scotch Tape. You can put it over an emerging blister on your foot and give your slippery shoes traction (double stick). Also, if you have an ingrown toenail, fold up a piece of tape 2 or 3 times and wedge between the toe and nail.

7. Sunscreen. Did you know that 5 sunburns increases your risk of melanoma by 50%? If you get a burn that scabs, it increases it even more. Use sunscreen! It's so easy, just get a moisturizer with it and your set.

8. Shower Poufs. I'm sure you've heard it for years that shower poufs are unsanitary and have lots of bacteria. This is false. The synthetic material they are made of repels bacteria and it's good for your skin, so scrub away! Plus, you won't use as much body wash!

9. Washing clothes. For some reason, I've talked to so many people that don't know the rules of washing their clothes. Wash with like colors, i.e. darks, lights, towels, sheets. Wash your darks in cold water to prevent bleeding. Do not, I repeat do not wash your clothing or sheets with towels. This will tear apart the fibers and will cause pilling (those little balls that form on the surface of the clothing), making it rough and ugly.

10. Splinters. Put a piece of well-ripened banana skin pulp-side down on the affected area, and cover the whole thing with a bandage. The enzymes will help draw out the foreign matter. Cool huh?

Some of these tips are crazy, but true. Have any other weird secrets?

Living it up at the hotel California

Day 10.

After packing up all of our stuff, we were off to San Diego! This ride was a lot more do-able, and we were so looking forward to enjoying the beach. Once we got there, we checked into our hotel, changed, and hit the beach! La Jolla beach was beautiful, but the sand definitely was not; it had kind of a blackness to it, staining my feet. After laying out for a bit, we went back to the hotel to shower and get ready for dinner.
Wanting some snacks for the hotel room, we hit up Trader Joe's. Next, we were on our way to a very intimidating restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter, Dick's Last Resort. Here, the waiters are rude...making remarks and rolling their eyes. It was very entertaining. The place was a mess...bras hanging on the walls, paper towels all over the floor, and the waiters there make you hats with crude humor on it. The only one that was remotely appropriate was the one Kim got that read "skank." A very fun experience, and the food wasn't too bad either...highly recommended if you're not afraid of waiters making fun of you.
After dinner, we walked around the Gaslamp Quarter which was really nice. The weather was perfect, so it was a great night for a stroll. While walking, we ran into some random guy on the road, who told us to go to top floor lounge at the Marriott Hotel, where you could see an amazing view of the city. He was right...it was gorgeous, with all the lights of the city glowing. The lounge was cool too, tons of lights and a fire pit in the center...a nice way to spend the evening if you were a guest at the hotel. After a long day, we called it a night.
